Application Process and Cycle  

Screening of applications begins immediately and continues until the positions are filled. For best consideration, please submit your application with supporting documents to blackmidwiferyfellowship@ucsf. We will interview a select number of applicants over Zoom. Successful applicant(s) will have ONE week from receipt to accept the offer. The fellowship will start in Summer/fall of 2026 after completion of the UCSF hiring, credentialing, and privileging processes. 

Required Qualifications at time of application submission: 

  • New Post-Graduate Midwifery Fellowship: Within 24 months of graduation from an accredited nurse-midwifery education program. *Applicants who graduated more than 24 months ago may still be considered; a supplemental written statement of 150 words or less describing the reason(s) for the gap is required.

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 
  • Current NRP certification  
  • Completion of AWHONN Fetal Heart Tracing Course  
  • Certification as a Nurse-Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board 
  • RN and CNM (with furnishing) licensure in California.  Both must be in process through the California Board of Registered Nursing at the time of application submission and finalized prior to start date 
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration for Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 prior to start date 
  • Work or volunteer history with historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged groups  
  • Demonstrated excellence in scholarship, communication, leadership, problem resolution, and teaching 
Administrative Requirements:  
  • Successful background check 
  • A health clearance through Occupational Health department 
  • Verification of any documents required for the position 
  • Verification of identity and eligibility to work in the USA 
  • The completion of the new hire process, including all required paperwork 
  • Credentialing process via the ZSFG & UCSF Medical Staff Services Office. 
Desired Qualifications:  

  • New Post-Graduate Midwifery Fellowship: clinical experience as a certified nurse midwife, though will strongly consider new graduate applicants 

  • Experience in abortion care  

  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills  

  • Ability to articulate and implement core tenets of equitable healthcare and education 

  • Experience facilitating Group prenatal care [ including as a student]  

  • Proficiency in Spanish language
